City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre has put rescuers on full alert.

While there are no indications of particularly heavy rainfall, disaster management officials have called on people to be careful in the strong north-westerly winds.

The weather service said the rainfall was expected to ease by Sunday.

Disaster Risk Management spokesman Wilfred Solomons-Johannes advised motorists to slow down and maintain safe following distances.

He also appealed to people to keep a watchful eye on open flames or fires and extinguish them before going to bed.

Emergency or distress calls can be made to the 107 emergency number from a landline.
