A Cape Town man has been rescued by helicopter after falling off Lion’s Head and fracturing his leg during a hike.
Jan Rossouw, 45, from Kuilsriver, was at the first section of the ladders on the mountain when he fell on Monday.
His father, Jan Rossouw sr, rushed to the mountain after his son called him for help.
“He called me after his fall, and he said he thought his leg was broken. Luckily for him, there were other people around him on the mountain.”
Rossouw said his son had assured him that he was fine. He said his son was a regular hiker who had never had an accident before.
“He’s not new to climbing; he goes often. He told me this morning (Monday) that he was going up, and I told him to be careful,” said Rossouw sr.
Anwaaz Bent, spokesman for Wilderness Search and Rescue, said Rossouw jr had been taken to Vincent Pallotti Hospital.
“Paramedics and the mountain rescue technical team stabilised him.
“He was airlifted to Vincent Pallotti Hospital (to) be treated for a fractured tibia,” said Bent.
