Cape Town - The employers of a man crushed to death on the set of Hollywood blockbuster Resident Evil, have revealed details of his horrific death.

Last week the Daily Voice brought you the exclusive story of how the recently married Ricardo Cornelius, 34, died earlier this month while working on the Belhar set of the sixth instalment in the zombie movie series.

He died on December 3 due to extensive injuries, including liver damage, after being crushed by a Hummer.

The Mitchells Plain man had been working for All Access Crew for five weeks at the time of the tragedy.

All Access Crew Managing Director, Cassandre Wilson, says Ricardo and other crew members were manually rotating the vehicle moments before tragedy struck.

Cassandre says: “Ricardo Cornelius was standing on the stage decking adjacent to the rotating platform while the vehicle was slowly rotating clockwise.

“He lost his footing and slipped and was pinned between the wall and the vehicle.”

Last week, Ricardo’s grieving widow, Shafiefa Cornelius, 26, said she was desperate to know what happened to her husband.

His colleagues blocked her on their phones when she turned to them for answers.

The sixth film in the Hollywood franchise starring Milla Jovovich was filmed around the country, including Belhar where Ricardo worked.

Cassandre, however, says they did all they could do help Shafiefa.

“From the moment we were informed of the incident, we have done everything in our power to support and assist his wife through this incredibly difficult time,” she says.

“We transported her to the hospital to be at his bed side and shared all that we knew about the incident with her from the outset.

“Since his passing, we have remained in constant contact with her and the family, assisting with funeral costs and arrangements, advising on the process for workman’s compensation, UIF claims, etc.”

Cassandre says they also helped book and coordinate trauma counselling sessions for Shafiefa.

Ricardo, who has a child from a previous relationship, died six days before he could celebrate his 10-month anniversary with Shafiefa.
