Cape Town - The Easter weekend got off to an unpleasant start for a Cape Town woman who had to be airlifted off Lion’s Head after being seriously injured during a group hike.

The woman, in her 40s, was hiking on the mountain with friends about 10am on Friday when she injured her leg.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said their paramedics had to walk about 2km up the mountain to reach the woman.

“After she was treated, she was airlifted off the mountain by the Air Mercy Services rescue helicopter to the parking lot, where an ambulance was standing by,” he said.

He could not release the women’s name, but said they believed she had fractured a leg. She was sent to Christiaan Barnard Hospital.
