LOOK: Five injured as train hits car

Cape Town - A four-year-old child was among five people who were injured when their vehicle was hit by a train near the Muldersvlei station outside Stellenbosch, paramedics said.

 

Paramedics from ER24 as well as local emergency services arrived on the scene of the crash just before 3pm on Thursday afternoon, where they found the car a few meters onto the train tracks. Two women who are believed to be 25 and 40 years old sustained serious injuries. After being stabilised on the scene, the 25-year-old woman was airlifted to Tygerberg Hospital by the AMS helicopter.

 

The 40-year-old woman was transported to the to Mediclinic in nearby Stellenbosch. The rest of the injured people were treated for moderate injuries and transported to nearby hospitals for further care.

 

The exact cause of the crash is not yet known.
