Cape Town - One man was killed and three others injured when a refuse truck overturned on Dirkie Uys Street in Somerset West, Cape Town, on Friday afternoon, Western Cape paramedics said.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found a large refuse truck lying on its side in the middle of the road, ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

“On inspection, paramedics discovered the body of a man in his 20s lying a few metres away from the vehicle. Unfortunately the man had already succumbed to his multiple fatal injuries and was declared dead on [the] scene.”

Three other men, aged between 20 and 30, were assessed and found to have sustained only minor injuries. Paramedics treated the patients and transported them to Mediclinic Vergelegen for further treatment.

It was believed that the driver lost control of the truck, causing the vehicle to overturn, Meiring said.
