A heartbroken dad ended his life on a railway line close to where his young wife flung herself and their two kids under a train.

Police were called to the tragic scene on Tuesday night near Melton Rose Station.

There they found the broken body of 31-year-old Marko Masese.

It is believed he flung himself in front of an oncoming train just after 6pm.

It was just a few hundred metres from where his family was wiped out.

Meanwhile, Metrorail have expressed their shock saying they provided the father with counselling after the deaths.

Metrorail’s Riana Scott confirms the tragic incident.

“Metrorail confirmed a case of apparent suicide near Melton Rose Station on 21 February, 2012, the incident was reported shortly after 6pm.”

She says Lindelo Matya, regional manager for Metrorail Western Cape, arranged counselling for Marko.

Matya expressed his shock and regret on being informed of the tragedy: “We had arranged for trauma counselling for Mr Masese after he had to come to terms with the loss of his wife and children.

“We are devastated at the turn of events.”

He extended condolences to family and friends of the Masese and Chiwandire families on behalf of the staff of Metrorail.

On February 7, his wife, Nyarai Chiwandire stood holding their 16-month-old daughter Rosemary, and infant son, Allan, and walked in front of an oncoming train near Eerste River.

Four days after their shocking deaths, Marko opened up his heart to the media, saying he could not believe his family was gone.

He said he had no idea his wife was suicidal.

All he knew was that his wife had told him she was going for a check-up at hospital after having post-birth pains on the morning of her death.

The father assumed his wife was at hospital and had no clue she was lying in a city morgue and only got the tragic news a day later.

He had said he moved from Zimbabwe to South Africa four years ago to make a better life for his family.
