Kleinmond, Western Cape – The body of a man who went missing while walking on the beach at Kleinmond in the Western Cape has been recovered from the sea, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said on Sunday.

NSRI Hermanus duty crew and the Western Cape government health emergency medical services (EMS) rescue squad were called out at Kleinmond on Saturday afternoon following a request from the SA Police Service, who were searching the shoreline and among sand dunes for a local missing man, aged in his 60s, NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said.

The man had reportedly gone for a regular morning walk on the beach with his dog and his family grew concerned when he did not return. The family started searching for the man and found the dog wandering on the beach but no sign of the missing man and raised the alarm.

“While NSRI and metro rescue were responding towards the scene, police confirmed that they had found and recovered the man from shallow water in the sea. Sadly the man was confirmed to be deceased. Police have opened an inquest docket. Condolences have been conveyed to the family of the deceased man,” Lambinon said.
