Cape Town - The City of Cape Town said on Wednesday they were redeveloping the Little House on the Prairie.

The city would begin the redevelopment on Thursday with a symbolic demolition of the buildings on the premises, said alderman Jean-Pierre Smith in a statement.

The demolition is scheduled to take place from 11:30am to 12:30pm in Belhar.

Smith said demolishing the building that became synonymous with drugs was a significant moment in the city’s ongoing fight against drugs.

“The city reclaimed the property in 2013 after a near decade-long legal battle to evict the occupants,” said Smith, the city’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security.

At the demolition, the City of Cape Town will present their future plans for Little House on the Prairie that will benefit the communities in the area.

The city’s executive mayor, Patricia de Lille, and Smith will be present at the demolition of the buildings that made up Little House on the Prairie.
