Hout Bay, Cape Town - At least one person died and dozens were injured after their charter boat capsized in Hout Bay, Cape Town on Saturday, the National Sea and Rescue Institute (NSRI) said.

“The revised numbers are that 41 people were on board the boat, 35 people are accounted for and one person of the 35 is diseased not four as originally reported,” NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon said.

“Six people remain missing and a search is continuing for those six people.”

A charter boat, The Maroshka, was carrying about 41 people when it capsized near Duiker Island at about 3pm, Lambinon said.

Lambinon said it was not known what caused the boat to capsize.

“At this stage - emergency medical service- and police dive units are going to conduct a dive to determine if there are any people trapped beneath the hull of the boat,” he said.
