Cape Town - Most political parties represented in the City of Cape Town on Wednesday pledged their support for a campaign aimed at tackling racism in the Mother City.

“The majority leadership of various political parties represented in the Cape Town met with the Executive Mayor to discuss the Inclusive City campaign and have undertaken to promote its message,” said City Council Speaker Dirk Smit.

Mayor Patricia de Lille launched the Inclusive City campaign on Human Rights Day on March 21.

The campaign is aimed at mobilising Capetonians to speak out against racism and promote a culture of human rights in the city.

Political parties supporting the campaign included the Democratic Alliance, Al Jama-ah, Congress of the People, Cape Muslim Congress, Pan African Congress, United Democratic Movement, and Freedom Front Plus.

“The signatories have undertaken to promote the message of the campaign and to provide feedback to the offices of the Mayor and Speaker for a durable commitment to fight racism,” said Smit.
