Cape Town – Emergency services are still on scene at the veld fire in the Vredehoek area, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded to the fire in the vicinity of Deer Park Drive on the lower slopes of Table Mountain just after 9.30pm on Monday.

“An extensive area of vegetation is burning. Eight fire engines and four water tankers are on scene and some still en-route. Firefighting efforts are concentrated on averting the spread of the fire towards the residential area in Oranjezicht”, City Fire and Rescue spokesman Theo Layne said on Monday night.
