Cape Town - Temperatures in Cape Town are set to plummet this week as a cold front hits on Wednesday, bringing with it rain, the possibility of rough seas - and potentially snow.
Maximum temperatures will drop to about 13ºC on Wednesday, and to about 11ºC on Thursday and Friday.
South African Weather Service forecaster Bransby Bulo said the Western Cape would experience “very cold temperatures” from Wednesday and “a good chance” of showers.
On Thursday there would be a possibility of snow in the high-lying parts of the Western Cape.
Bulo said temperatures would slowly rise, reaching about 14ºC in Cape Town on Sunday.
There could be rough seas along the south coast from Wednesday until the weekend.
Snow Report SA posted on its Facebook page on Sunday that it had been watching a “series of frontal systems approaching the Western Cape” and was expecting “widespread snow” from Wednesday.
It expected most of the snow to fall late on Wednesday through to early Thursday morning, and went on to say that there could potentially be up to 22cm of snow on the higher peaks of the Matroosberg.
Bulo said another system following Wednesday’s cold front would ensure rain and cold temperatures through to the weekend.
