Cape Town - For the second time this year, President Jacob Zuma will deliver a State of the Nation Address – on Tuesday night. And for the second time this year, Cape Town motorists can expect restrictions on the roads.

While rehearsals are under way tonight, the following roads will be closed between 5pm and midnight: Strand Street between Russel and Adderley streets; Adderley Street from its intersection with Hans Strijdom Avenue down to Wale Street; Bureau Street from Adderley to Parliament streets; and Spin Street from Corporation to Parliament streets.

Parliament Street will be closed from the gates of Parliament to Longmarket Street.

The Strand Street off-ramp on Nelson Mandela Boulevard will also be closed.

Those road closures will apply again on Tuesday morning. From 9am, the Company’s Garden will close until Tuesday midnight, along with:

Roeland Street between Plein and Buitenkant streets; Government Avenue from the Delville Wood Memorial to Wale Street; Plein Street from Barrack to Vrede streets; Gallery Lane; Bouquet Street; and St John’s Road between Plein and Vrede streets. At 11am, Government Avenue will be closed completely.

From 4pm, the Strand Street off-ramp on Nelson Mandela Boulevard will be closed until 10pm

, as will Strand Street, from Russel to Adderley streets; Adderley Street from Hans Strijdom Avenue to Wale Street; Wale Street between Queen Victoria and Adderley streets; Bureau Street between Adderley and Parliament streets; Spin Street between Corporation and Parliament streets; Plein Street between Roeland and Strand streets; and Parliament Street from the gates of Parliament to Longmarket Street.

At 5.45pm, that radius will extend to Newlands, Rondebosch and Observatory, including the following roads, which will open only at 7pm: Klipper Road, Newlands from the M4 to Newlands Avenue; Princess Anne Avenue, Newlands from Newlands Avenue to Union Avenue; Newlands Avenue from Dean Street to Princess Anne Avenue; Dean Street, Newlands from Main or the M4 to Newlands Avenue; M3, all the way from Newlands Avenue to the CBD; Woolsack Drive, Rondebosch between Main Road/M4 and Rhodes Drive on the M3; Anzio Road, Observatory from Main Road/M4 to De Waal Drive on the M3; N2/Settlers Way, from M4 to the CBD; and Nelson Mandela Boulevard from Hospital Bend to Christiaan Barnard, including the on-ramps at Melbourne and Roodebloem roads and Searle Street.

Parking restrictions on most of the above roads will be in place for all of Tuesday, including on Princess Anne Avenue, in Church Square, and the parking area of St Mary’s Cathedral.
