A search continued on Monday morning for a man who went missing after his inflatable boat capsized in Kommetjie, south of Cape Town, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said.
Spokesman Craig Lambinon said police divers had been searching for his body since 5.30am.
He said the man apparently launched the boat late on Friday night to go fishing with friends, but it overturned in rough seas. The alarm was raised only when the boat was found washed up on Noordhoek beach on Saturday morning.
The NRSI went to investigate and found the body of a man, believed to be one of his friends, 30 metres away.
“Later on the same day a man in Hout Bay claimed to be a survivor from the same rubber duck and said that a third man is missing,” Lambinon said.
“It is not clear why the survivor did not raise the alarm earlier and police are interviewing him.”
An inquest docket had been opened. – Sapa
