A teacher caught on video pushing a pupil has been found guilty of improper conduct.

After a disciplinary hearing, the Hout Bay teacher received a final written warning and a fine, said Western Cape Education Department spokesman Paddy Attwell.

In February, the Cape Argus reported that Hout Bay resident Roscoe Jacobs had filmed the incident at the school and posted the video on Facebook.

Jacobs said he was at the school after hours on February 2 to deliver something to one of the teachers.

He reported that he heard people screaming.

“A teacher was trying to get a learner to go into the admin block,” he said at the time.

Jacobs said that when the pupil didn’t want to go, the teacher hit her and the pupil hit back.

Jacobs told the Cape Argus at the time that he saw the pupil sitting down on the stairs and that the teacher pulled her up and pushed her against the wall.

He said the teacher continued to try to get the pupil up to the administration block.

He had advised the pupil to lay a charge against the teacher.

The education district office investigated the matter.

Attwell said the teacher and the pupil were still at the school.

The teacher can appeal the guilty ruling. - Cape Argus
