Cape Town - Three women died and two other people were injured when a vehicle overturned in Hout Bay, Cape Town, on Tuesday, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said.

The sedan crashed through the bridge railings of the Disa River bridge on Princess Avenue and landed upside down in the Disa River, said NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon.

The driver and a female passenger were located downstream, in a state of shock.

The rescue team began raising the vehicle out of the water and recovered the bodies of the three women.

Police opened an inquest docket.
