Cape Town - Three men were injured, one seriously, when a truck crashed and ended up on a school sports field in Steenberg, Cape Town, on Wednesday, paramedics said.

The injured were the driver of the truck and two passengers, said ER24 spokeswoman Luyanda Majija.

The critically injured man was found lying on the field when paramedics arrived. The Jaws of Life were used to free the driver from the wreck.

The other man sustained moderate injuries, said Majija.

All three were treated on the scene before being taken to Victoria Hospital.

Majija said it appeared the driver had lost control of the truck before it crashed.

“The truck was said to have sped down the Redham Road embankment before overturning into the school's sports field.”
