Plettenberg Bay -

A 50-year-old German man drowned on Wednesday in Plettenberg Bay, the National Sea Rescue Institute said.

“The NSRI was alerted to the drowning at the Dunes caravan park at Keurbooms beach shortly before 3pm,” said spokesman Andrew Ingram.

Rescue workers arrived to find the man had already been taken from the water and was undergoing CPR.

The man was treated by the NSRI and then a Bay Care ambulance which transported him to Plettenberg Bay Medi Clinic where he was declared dead on arrival.

The man was on holiday on the Garden Route.

In a second incident, a private boat overturned in the Keurbooms river mouth, dumping four people into the water.

All four were helped out of water and returned to shore.

Ingram said it was the second time in three days the same boat needed to be rescued. - Sapa
