Cape Town - Health facilities in the Western Cape were equipped on Thursday to deal with power cuts, the provincial health department said.

“All hospitals' generators kicked in automatically,” Health MEC Theuns Botha's spokeswoman, Hélène Rossouw said in a statement.

“Portable generators were made available by emergency medical services (EMS) to facilities with vaccine stocks and medication that require refrigeration to maintain the cold chain protocol.”

She said the EMS was geared to ensure efficient health services.
