Cape Town - The Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula visited Elsies River earlier on Thursday to officially open the new satellite police station stationed at the Adriaanse Civic Centre on the corners of Owen Road and 35th Street.

Mbalula said police heard the plight of the community saying the one police station was not sufficient. "We are here to protect and support our community. Together we can fight this scourge of crime in our communities," Mbalula said.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula said to the Elsies River community in the Adriaanse Hall, from where slain three-year-old Courtney Pieters was buried this past Saturday, that the new satellite station should "not be a white elephant".

“We will never abandon you. As for criminals we want them to know they will get their day. It will not be business as usual, it is business unusual,” Mbalula said.
