Cape Town - A 43-year-old woman was arrested at the Cape Town International Airport for the possession of 180 bundles of khat, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said that at around 3pm on Wednesday, authorities responsible for searching luggage at the airport conducted a stop-and-search operation and found the drugs.

"The vigilance of both parties involved in the operation led to the arrest of a 43-year-old woman after 180 bundles of Khat were discovered in her possession as she had just disembarked off a flight from Kenya," Van Wyk said.

"She is due to make a court appearance at the Bellville Magistrate’s Court to face charges of possession of and dealing in drugs, once she has been charged."
