Worcester – Three people have died in a collision between two cars on the R60 near Worcester in the Western Cape, paramedics said on Saturday.

Shortly before 3am on Saturday morning, ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on the scene where they found a car had crashed over a barrier and down an embankment into a river, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said.

“A woman and a man, believed to be in their late 40s, were found with fatal injuries inside the vehicle. There was nothing that paramedics could do for them and they were declared dead on the scene.”

In the second car, a passenger, believed to be in his 50s, was found to have sustained multiple fatal injuries. The driver was extricated from the car and later transported by Metro Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to a nearby hospital. The cause of the collision was unknown, Vermaak said.
