Johannesburg - An ANC local branch in Seshego, outside Polokwane, Limpopo, says it is considering refurbishing the house of a family who stay next door to Julius Malema’s grandmother’s double-storey house.

The homeowner doesn’t want it, though.

This follows the unveiling by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader of a house built for a poor family near President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla home.

The chairman of the ANC’s Milo Malatjie branch in Seshego, Boy Mamabolo, confirmed on Monday that his branch planned to refurbish the four-room house and build a perimeter wall around it.

Mamabolo denied the decision was a case of tit-for-tat after Malema’s attempt to embarrass Zuma.

“It’s not an electioneering strategy; it’s part of our ongoing programme as a branch,” he said.

Mamabolo said the branch would invite ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa on February 22 to celebrate the Baloyi home’s makeover.

The EFF will be launching its election manifesto in Tembisa on the same day.

Mamabolo said he visited the family yesterday and they had agreed to the proposal.

“We will tile their house. We will even buy them a TV set,” he said.

However, the homeowner, Thomas Baloyi, said he would not allow ANC members to touch his house.

“I will not allow them in. I am an EFF member,” said Baloyi, who is a pensioner.

Mamabolo alleged that Malema’s cousin and EFF local leaders had dissuaded Baloyi after the ANC’s visit.
