The ANC Youth League will not replace its expelled leader, Julius Malema, the Sunday Times reported.

Deputy president Ronald Lamola should assume the role of acting president, according to the league's constitution. But he told the paper the league had not yet accepted the expulsion.

“Nothing has changed,” he was quoted as saying.

“Julius Malema is still the president of the youth league. We will ask the ANC national executive to review his expulsion. If that fails, we will fight this battle at the ANC congress in Mangaung.”

Malema had declined his nomination for vice president of the International Union of Socialist Youth due to fears this would detract from fighting his expulsion, the paper reported.

ANCYL spokeswoman Magdalene Moonsamy said the youth league had issued a statement following its last national executive committee (NEC) meeting. The NEC meeting reaffirmed “that he 1/8Malema 3/8 will remain the president of the ANCYL until 2014”, according to the statement. - Sapa
