At the Kwa Mai-Mai market you can find Madanisa Ndondo making shoes for both dancing and regular wear. “I started making a living with this in 1995, there is no other income. I buy old tyres to make these.” Ndondo has people who help him by putting aside tyres that can be used to make the shoes he makes. He purchases the tyres and makes mbatatas and dabuzwayo, two different kinds of shoes, which he sells for R400.
