ANC Youth League president Julius Malema incorrectly targeted Anglo American when he urged Vereeniging township residents not to vacate the mineral rich land on which they are staying, according to a report on Friday.
The Anglo American mining company sold the prospecting rights of the Bantu Bonke settlement to an empowerment company, Richtrau No 253, earlier this year, Business Day reported.
“We therefore have no intention to mine this area or move the community,” Anglo spokesman Pranill Ramchander told the daily.
Richtrau has had two meetings with the community to explain what the company has and what it planned to do, according to the newspaper.
Business Day reported that prospecting could take years. If any economically viable deposit was found, the company had to apply for a mining permit.
Malema told the community in a packed hall on Sunday: “We heard Anglo (mining company) wants you to move...they said there's alternative land because they have discovered a mineral”.
He said the community had the right to continue living on their land and be party to mining and agricultural activity.
“Even the houses they want to give you are not proper houses. The land must be given to the people...people have been killed for this land.” – Sapa

The amount of people that attended the march in proportion to "the masses" he claims to represent is laughable. Factor in the schoolkids that were forced to attend and those bribed with freebies it becomes even more comical. If Juju thinks his wealthy black mining buddies are going to let him take away their wealth he must be as thick as we all suspect he is. There are none so blind as those who will not see.

Listen carefully cupcake. If I was in the public eye and wanted to make a statement that I expect will cause an outcry...you bet your bottom dollar that I would be sure of my facts. Don't you agree ? Common knowledge is I suspect, with you, not common

a 'demonstrator' from kimberely unemployed for some years stated that "unemployment is because of land distribution and 90% of the land is owned by whites" - seems to me that the ancyl propaganda machines has been spewing out lies that have now become the truth for these people.....the truth is not being told by malema as it will not fit his agenda. the canon fodder will stand in the front line of destruction and will finaly find out that the white minority owns but a minority of the land. land not owned by blacks is also not neccessarily owned by whites but is owned by anc govt and other population groups. THE TRUTH MUST BE TOLD NOT MALEMAS LIES!!!!!

Do we need to say more - it shows what an ill informed "leader" he is... hot air and nothing else... It does not make one wonder why foreign investment is down, tourism is down and actually everything is down.... if the "leaders" behave like elephants in a porcelain shop.
