Expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema's former lawyer has warned the ANC that it may lose power by 2019 it if continues to distance itself from the people, SABC radio reported on Saturday.

Dali Mpofu said the African National Congress was no longer close to the people and that was the reason why opposition parties were making strong inroads.

The comments were made during an address to students affiliated to the ANC at the University of Fort Hare in the Eastern Cape.

He said some leaders were more concerned about their own wealth than addressing the plight of the people, who put them in their positions. - Sapa
