The ANC wished former president Nelson Mandela strength and good health on Tuesday, ahead of his 94th birthday in a few months.
The party's Chief Whip Mathole Motshekga said he was pleased Mandela was recuperating at home following his admission to hospital at the weekend.
“We thank the hospital staff and the SA National Defence Force for their continued care of Madiba's health,” said Motshekga.
“We also thank all South Africans and the international community for the kind messages and prayers for our beloved first democratic president.”
He commended the government for keeping everyone in the loop about Mandela's progress throughout his stay his hospital, but criticised “certain sections of the media”.
They “handled the reportage of Madiba's admission in an undignified manner, including posting speculative information on social media”, Motshekga said.
“We are however satisfied that the majority of the media, particularly the local press, reported the developments with dignity and respect.”
Mandela was discharged from an undisclosed hospital on Sunday, after he was admitted for a stomach ailment on Saturday morning.
