Pretoria -

Nelson Mandela's recuperation at home after his recent hospitalisation continues, the presidency said on Wednesday.

“We have not received any word from the doctors. Therefore we assume everything is moving according to plan, and Madiba's recovery continues on track,” spokesman Mac Maharaj said.

The first democratic president of South Africa is receiving home-based high care at his Houghton residence in Johannesburg, since being discharged from hospital towards the end of December.

He was flown from his home in Qunu in the Eastern Cape to Pretoria on December 8 to receive treatment for a lung infection. He also underwent gallstone surgery.

Mandela has a history of lung problems, having suffered from tuberculosis towards the end of his 27 years spent in prison. - Sapa
