STEENKAMPS NOT FACING EVICTION: ADVOCATE

A report that the parents of murdered model Reeva Steenkamp were facing eviction was denied on Thursday.

Said PJ de Bruyn, advocate for Barry and June Steenkamp: "They have not been evicted. The owner wants to move back into her house."

French news agency AFP earlier reported that the couple was being evicted from their home outside Port Elizabeth, a month after their daughter's death.

De Bruyn said the Steenkamps were given two months notice as provided for in their written contract.

AFP quoted Reeva's uncle Michael Steenkamp as saying: "They have been given notice on their home by the owners. They are going to be vacating that house soon."

Michael Steenkamp said he was not sure of the reason for the notice, but said the owner might want to sell the modest home, located in a quiet outlying coastal suburb.

Reeva was shot and killed in paralympian Oscar Pistorius' Pretoria home on Valentine's Day.

In an affidavit submitted as part of his bail application, Pistorius said he thought he was shooting at an intruder, through a closed bathroom door.

He was granted R1 million bail on Friday, February 22. He was allowed to pay an initial instalment of R100,000, with the balance due by March 1.

Steenkamp was cremated in a private ceremony in Port Elizabeth on February 19.

Pistorius' next court appearance is on June 4.
