Cape Town - Hundreds of African National Congress supporters were being bussed into the Cape Town city centre on Thursday ahead of the People's Assembly, which coincides with President Jacob Zuma's State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Zuma was expected to join the People's Assembly for a short while after his speech.

The group is chanting and singing songs claiming Zuma was part of the revolutionary struggle of the people while other political parties were not.

The Grand Parade, where the People's Assembly, is taking place has been cordoned off.

There is a strong police presence and barbed wire will be rolled out to keep opposing groups from clashing - which happened during protests at last year's SONA.
