South Africans are most concerned about education, corruption and unemployment, if Facebook requests to the president are anything to go by.
These topics, and a few calls for his resignation, are what people felt President Jacob Zuma should talk about in his State of the Nation address on Thursday.
Under the Facebook page, The Presidency of the Republic of SA, the president asked to hear the voice of the people.
While some were respectful, others didn’t water down their thoughts about their leader.
“Dear Mr President, can you make this year’s address more interesting by giving your resignation on the day, that will boost the economy of the country, enable the African agenda to continue, more jobs will be created, and please don’t embarrass mama Dlamini-Zuma again. Only until you resign then a South African can lead the AU.”
By far the most overwhelming concern was with corruption of government officials, particularly in municipalities, with respondents saying it was stopping services from reaching communities.
Thea van Steenderen asked:
“Can you not once and for all get rid of the corrupt municipalities in the country? In Rustenburg we are in dire need of fixing up potholes, and general cleaning up of the town… Another problem is that there are so many destitute children here, of all colours. Poverty is rife. Please help.”
Frans Moses Ramodike wrote: “Corruption is killing us. It seems like everyone in de government is corrupted.”
Penny Viljoen was concerned with blue-light brigades. “They are reckless, travel at excessive speeds and are absolute pigs on the road.”
Schooling and education was also on people’s minds.
Sphamandla Bofu said he had been accepted to study at an institution, but had no funding and would like the Presidency to step in, while Zandile Zipporah Sizane asked for teachers in the Eastern Cape who didn’t want to do their jobs to be dealt with. They were destroying the lives of many children.
Mmako Maseko asked Zuma if he would address unemployment in his speech. “More especially for postgraduate students because as a young person I am confused as to whether I should continue with my studies or should I go looking for a job.” - The Star

Whey does the South African government give preference to the foreign students mainly Zimbabweans (we as South African get told that the universities are full, were as they have some agreements with foreign countries to allow the student to occupy space. (I apply in July 2011 only to be told that its full with a average mark of 63% )6 places are still open but its reserved for the Zimbabweans that are on there way with buses to Fort Hare university east london.

@TBOZ: You go to Australia, or wherever, TBOZ, because we who want to make South Africa a great country don't want you messing it up for us any more.

@ TBOZ- Must Arch Tutu also go to Australia as well? He has gone as far as praying for the downfall of this corrpt ANC government. By the way, if all the people that had no respect for Zuma and the ANC left for Australia, there would be hardly anyone left to pay income tax.

I was struck by the words of an angry poor supermarket trolley recoverer at recent town meeting debating the disgraceful secrecy bill when he shouted at at the politicians seated on the stage, " you corrupt politicians have no God". Those words said it all Zuma.

I don't need to listen to this overpaid bag of corruption and incompetence to know the state of the nation : It is in a TERRIBLE state thanks to him and his plenty of cronies, all of whom are now sitting pretty with highly paid positions in government. Unemployment rife, crime out of control, education system rotten, health system - none, local government corrupt to the core (same as national government). All those empty promises and all the money that has been safely stowed away in the bank accounts of the fat lazy comrades. So many poor people who have once again been let down. Shame on the anc. I will NOT be watching the state of the nation address. It is an insult to all South AFricans.

I have to smile when someone gets annoyed at criticism and tells people to leave the country. This a free country and we are allowed to critizise. How do South Africans just leave, people whose parents are born here, then some smart ass tells them to leave. Do they know how difficult it is to leave? Other countries have their own population and lack of jobs problems, the grass is not always greener on the other side.
