President Jacob Zuma arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Wednesday to attend the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, the presidency said on Wednesday.

The conference runs from June 20 to June 22, spokesman Mac Maharaj said in a statement.

Conference themes include creating a green economy through sustainable development while reducing poverty, instituting a sustainable development framework, and assessing the outcomes of similar conferences.

The gathering would also look at critical issues around sustainable development such as energy provision, said Maharaj.
