President Jacob Zuma arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Wednesday to attend the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, the presidency said on Wednesday.
The conference runs from June 20 to June 22, spokesman Mac Maharaj said in a statement.
Conference themes include creating a green economy through sustainable development while reducing poverty, instituting a sustainable development framework, and assessing the outcomes of similar conferences.
The gathering would also look at critical issues around sustainable development such as energy provision, said Maharaj.
Zuma is accompanied by several Cabinet members, including Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa and Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. - Sapa
