Limpopo police warned against lawlessness on Wednesday when expelled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema appears in the Polokwane Regional Court later in the week.

“Members of the SA Police Service will be monitoring and patrolling the area in and around the court, as well as the city centre and identified areas in Seshego,” said Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

Streets surrounding the court would be closed at midnight on Thursday.

“This includes Schoeman Street from Thabo Mbeki to Rabe Streets, Landdros Mare Street from Thabo Mbeki to Rabe Street and Bodenstein Street from Church Street up to Hans van Rensburg Street.”

Mulaudzi advised members of the public to avoid the area on Friday morning.

No dangerous weapons including knobkerries, pangas and knives would be allowed near the court, said Mulaudzi.

Malema faces charges of money-laundering. Four of his co-accused face charges of fraud, corruption and money-laundering relating to a R52 million tender awarded to On-Point Engineers. - Sapa
