Durban - ANC supporters in KwaDukuza region, on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast, came out in large numbers to rally in support of President Jacob Zuma ahead of a secret vote on the motion of no confidence in Parliament.

The crowd marched to KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court where they handed the memorandum against the motion.

“We still have the confidence in the ANC, and we still have the confidence in the president of the country,” said ANC regional Thabani Mdlalose.

Mdlalose accused opposition parties of using the motion out of bitterness for not having the majority, which the ANC enjoys in parliament.

“We are saying the ANC must be respected. The community has come out in numbers to express their views that hands off the president.

“It is enough that the opposition parties would collide in attempting to oust the president of the country,” said Mdlalose.

However, Mdlalose said the ANC would remain opposed to state capture, which is linked to Zuma and his Gupta friends.

“We are saying that people who are doing business with the government in an illegal manor must be handled by law.

“If it is proven that they are getting business deals in an unlawful and corrupt manner we are saying the law must intervene and do its work because as the ANC we are against conducting business in a corrupt way,” he said.

However, he said both Zuma and Guptas should be given a fair chance to defend themselves against the allegations.

“The allegation should be proven before actions are taken against the president.

“You cannot label allegation against someone without giving that someone a chance to defend himself,” he said.
