September 22, 2016 marked World Rhino Day. However, even with all the warnings and decreasing numbers of rhinos in Africa, poachers continue to target the endangered animal for its horn.

In 2015 alone, more than 1 300 rhinos were poached in South Africa and the numbers keep increasing.

It is not just rhino that are under threat, elephant are also poached for its tusks.

Sadly, since poachers do not care to remove the horns or tusks carefully, most poached animals are left to die. Game reserves have been encouraged to tighten security while other countries safely remove horns and tusks and burn them to deter poaching.

However, with all the efforts that have been made to save these animals from extinction, the future of the Big 5 hangs in the balance.
