A section of floor collapsed at the construction site of a U.S. casino, sending workers tumbling 30 feet (9 meters) to the ground and giving 11 people minor injuries, authorities said Friday.
A crew was pouring a section of concrete floor when a support beam “sheared away” at the Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati, fire Chief Richard Braun said.
“A single bay of the facility collapsed as concrete was being poured. All workers were accounted for,” Steve Rosenthal of casino co-developer Rock Gaming LLC said in a statement. The casino is being developed in partnership with Caesar's Entertainment.
Jessie Folmar, a spokeswoman for Cincinnati-based Messer Construction Co., said the company was trying to learn what happened.
Lt. Maurice Robinson, a police department spokesman, said 11injured were taken to hospitals, while fire department spokeswoman Jennifer Spieser said 13 were.
The collapse occurred on what will be the second floor and sent workers sliding about 30 feet (9 meters) to the floor below, said Jason Mullins, business manager for a union representing ironworkers on the project.
