At least 11 people were killed when an unmanned aircraft fired missiles into a compound in Pakistan's volatile tribal region along the Afghan border, an intelligence officer said on Tuesday.
The airstrike took place on Monday night in Dra Nashtar area of Shawal in North Waziristan, one of the seven tribal districts where rebels are active.
An intelligence official said on condition of anonymity that the US drone fired eight missiles into a mud compound and destroyed it.
“All the rescue work was done by locals who pulled out 11 charred bodies from the debris, the identities of those killed are not known yet,” he said.
The reports could not be confirmed independently as the area is out of reach of the media and rescue workers.
Pakistan regularly protests against the drone campaign because the attacks fuel radical sentiments.
But Washington defends the campaign as useful for eliminating enemy targets, and Pakistan's military intelligence is believed to collaborate with the programme.Author: Farrukh Azeem - Sapa-dpa
