Moscow -

Police in the former Soviet republic Kazakhstan on Tuesday were searching for suspects in the murder of eight people in a national park, local news agencies reported.

Some of the victims suffered knife injuries, Interior Minister Kalmukhanbet Kasymov said, in comments reported by Interfax.

Searchers found two corpses in the home of a forester living in the heavily-wooded Karasaisky region, about 700 kilometres to the south-east of the Kazakh capital Astana.

The remains of other victims reportedly were discovered as far as 25 kilometres away in the Ilye-Altai national park.

Two of the corpses had been burned in a forest fire. Both men and women were killed, and robbery appeared not to have been a motive, police said.

It was possible the killer or killer knew the victims, Kasymov said. - Sapa-dpa
