Guadalajara, Mexico -

About 800 people were evacuated from a showing of the latest Batman movie in Mexico, after a fire broke out at a cinema complex on Friday.

The incident occurred at the first showing of The Dark Night Rises at a cinema complex in Guadalajara, Mexico's second largest city, at 01h30 (06h30 GMT).

The local fire department told AFP there were no injuries.

Moviegoers were reportedly confused when the fire alarm sounded.

“We did not know if it was the movie or what happened, until the lights came on and they made us leave,” audience member Carlos Martinez told daily newspaper, El Universal.

Firefighters said they conducted the evacuation without any unexpected incident or panic among attendees.

A week prior, at a showing of the film in the United States, a gunman walked into a theater and shot dead 12 people, including a six-year-old girl. Another 58 audience members were injured.

The cast of the Batman movie, slated to attend the Mexican premiere of the film Monday, canceled their appearance due to the massacre. - Sapa-AFP
