New Delhi - An Indian politician said that Hindus should stop watching movies featuring three of Bollywood's top Muslim actors because they promote “love jihad,” news reports said on Monday.

“Our children do not get right samskars from the movies of the Khans,” said Sadhvi Prachi, a member of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Hindu activist, using the Hindi word for cultural heritage or upbringing.

Two of the three actors - Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan - are married to Hindu women, while the third, Salman Khan, is unmarried.

“They promote love jihad,” Prachi said at an event in the northern hill town of Dehradun on Sunday, according to Hindustan Times newspaper.

Some Hindu right-wing leaders have alleged that Muslims are conspiring to reduce the Hindu population by encouraging their men to seduce and convert Hindu women.

The country is about 80-per-cent Hindu, while Muslims comprise about 13 percent, according to 2001 census figures.

“Love jihad was not a form of inter-religion marriage but a forcible change in one's beliefs with criminal intention,” Prachi said at the event, which was organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (World Hindu Council).

“Hindu organisations will never tolerate this.”

Prachi appealed to Hindus not to watch movies starring any of the Khans or to put posters of them on their walls.

Hindus should also have more children to maintain their population balance, she said.

Prachi also urged Indian National Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to marry an Indian girl and settle down, the Hindustan Times reported.
