The prime suspect in a bombing that killed 18 civilians in eastern Afghanistan was identified and stoned to death by civilians, an official said on Tuesday.
A bus en route to a wedding on Sunday afternoon was hit by a roadside bomb in the Andar district of Ghazni province.
“Mohammad Asef, from Habib Qala village, confessed having a hand in the bombing two days earlier and was stoned to death by villagers,” said Mohammad Ali Ahmadi, deputy governor for Ghazni province.
“The villagers had seen a man running away just after the bomb exploded,” Ahmadi told reporters, saying they had followed and captured him at his house.
“According to the villagers, Asef had an insurgency background and was in relationships with the Taliban.”
Ahmadi said that remote controls used to trigger bombs were seized from the suspect's house. - Sapa-dpa
