Flashfloods due to heavy rainfall killed at least 27 people at a wedding in northern Afghanistan, while hundreds of others were missing or trapped under mud, a government spokesman said on Monday.
Floods swept through at least three villages in Sancharak district of Sari-e-Pul province on Sunday night, the official said.
Abdul Farid Faranji, a spokesman for the provincial governor, said rescue teams found 27 bodies from the wedding.
The bride was the only one they found alive, he said.
“The rescue operation is ongoing to look for the missing people,” he said.
Faranji also said as many as 300 people were missing or trapped under mud. - Sapa-dpa
