Burned down factory owner gets bailComment on this story
A Bangladeshi factory owner charged in the deaths of 112 garment workers in a fire was released on bail, amid protests by workers from his other plants over unpaid salaries, reports said on Wednesday.
Delawar Hossain was released from detention late on Tuesday following a July 24 court order granting him bail, The Daily Star newspaper reported.
Hossain was arrested in February for homicide after the deadly fire at his Tazreen Fashion factory in November 2012.
The factory that produced clothing for big foreign retailers including Wal-Mart had no emergency exits, and its location in a narrow alley prevented firefighters from responding quickly.
Investigators blamed the deaths on the owner's negligence
His release came as more than 1 500 workers at five other factories owned by Hossain have been on hunger strike demanding three months of unpaid wages and holiday allowances. - Sapa-dpa
