Innisful, Ontario -

Police say blustery snow squalls caused a pile-up of nearly 100 vehicles on a busy highway north of Toronto.

Ontario’s provincial police spokesman, Sergeant Dave Woodford, said officers counted 96 vehicles involved the chain-reaction crash on Thursday morning on Highway 400's southbound lanes.

No major injuries have been reported.

It happened after a snow squall moved into the region off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, creating whiteout conditions on the highway.

Provincial police reported several highway closures across south-western Ontario on Thursday. - Sapa-AP
