London - A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after three children were found dead at a house in London, British police said on Wednesday.

The 43-year-old was not identified, but media reports said she was the mother of the children, whose bodies were found on Tuesday evening.

There were four children in the family, who were originally from South Africa, three of whom had “life-limiting” genetic disorders, according to a neighbour.

The neighbour, who did not wish to be identified, said four-year-old twin boys and an older girl were ill, but the eldest, aged about seven or eight, was in good health.

She told reporters that the father works in finance and the mother looks after the children, adding: “They are a very, very lovely couple.”

Police were called to the large house in New Malden, south of the capital, at about 9.30pm on Tuesday.

“A 43-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at a south London police station,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

“Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident at this time.” - AFP
