Washington - Police would conduct a “controlled explosion” in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Friday as part of their investigation into the Boston Marathon bombings, State Police Colonel Timothy Alben said.

The move was being taken “out of an abundance of caution” to protect officers conducting a search of a building, he said.

The brothers suspected of carrying out Monday's attack reportedly lived together in the city. It is also the site of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where a police officer was killed late Thursday, sparking a manhunt for the suspects. - Sapa-dpa
