Istanbul - Turkish authorities have issued arrest warrants for four suspects following a fire that killed 12 people in a boarding school dormitory, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Sunday.

The director of the school accommodation is among those formally arrested, the report added. Other suspects detained shortly after the blaze have been released from custody.

A fire broke out on Tuesday evening at the school in the southern Turkish city of Adana. Most of the dead were schoolgirls, with one school employee killed in the blaze, according to Dogan news agency.

The 4-year-old daughter of the director was reportedly among those killed.

Authorities believe an electrical fault may have caused the fire.
